Of course, you come to Ibiza for the beach and restaurants, maybe for the clubs or just nature. But you can also get creative on the island. How about a workshop weaving, ceramics, or natural incense? Le petit Atelier nº74 has it all on offer..
Le petit Atelier nº74: creative paradise in Ibiza
In the heart of Ibiza, in the beautiful village of Santa Gertrudis, you will find Le petit Atelier nº74. Not so long ago, it was called L’atelier nº74, but it was then located in a different place in Santa Gertrudis and also featured a cozy café. Now it is a bit smaller, which is probably why it is called Le petit Atelier nº74.
The renovated Le petit Atelier nº74 can now be found in the “main” shopping street of Santa Gertrudis(Google Maps location). It is a store and atelier in one. In the store, it’s like I walk through a house where everything is for sale: all the products are displayed by room. So, in the kitchen room, you will find kitchen items; in the baby room, clothes and stuff for the little ones, and so on. There are also handmade clothing and accessories made from natural materials. You can also buy “Do It Yourself” sets, for example, for macramé, so that you can make something beautiful at home.
But I’m not here to make something pretty at home; I’m participating in a workshop. It is challenging to choose from the offer of Le petit Atelier nº74: embroidery, ceramics, or drinking wine and painting? It all sounds like fun, and it is reasonably priced. I eventually decide on the Natural Incense Workshop to learn how to make a smudge stick and incense cones.
A smudge stick is a bundle of dried herbs and flowers that you light for smoking. Originally they are used in rituals to, for example, clean rooms or remove negative energy.

Natural Incense Workshop with local flowers and plants
I do the workshop in the old studio space; now, you can join in the back of the store or in the small outdoor courtyard behind the store.

Patricia leads our workshop, and she has already set out a table full of local flowers, branches, dried fruits, and herbs. It smells delicious! She picked everything herself on the island.

We get a short explanation about what the different flowers and plants stand for, what the colors mean, and of course, how to make a smudge stick. And that is a straightforward and soothing job. You can actually combine all flowers and plants, so you’re always doing a good job. Then you tie the whole thing together and let it dry at home for a few weeks before using your smudge stick. Now you also have a nice souvenir to take home! Next, we make incense cones from the herbs (just regular kitchen herbs) with a bit of honey and water. Really simple, but someone has to teach you, right? And Patricia does a great job at that.

Many creative workshops on Ibiza
While we are focusing on the smudges and incense cones, a ceramic workshop is also taking place. Hands in the clay, it looks pretty tempting. The participants in all workshops are mainly women. My best friend is joining me because we are on the island together, and I wanted to try it, haha. But when a family sees us doing this, they get inspired and immediately book a workshop together. Another man! They also offer workshops just for kids. Check all options here.
