If the weather on Ibiza is a bit bad, a wine tasting is a perfect way to kill some time. What am I saying? Even when the sun is shining, a wine tasting in Ibiza is a good idea!

The wineries of Ibiza

Ibiza has several wineries: Can Rich (also known for its olive oil), Ibizkus, Bodegas Can Maymo, and Sa Cova. At all four, it is possible to do a wine tasting. It is wise to call in advance to make an appointment. At Can Maymo, I have not yet been able to schedule an appointment. I do visit Ojo de Ibiza, Can Rich, and Ibizkus: three very different wineries. So something for everyone.

Wine tasting at Ojo de Ibiza

What is now the Ojo de Ibiza vineyard was still the Sa Cova vineyard just a few years ago. However, the owners of Sa Cova sold their land, making way for a winemaker with a much more modern appearance.

Here, in Sant Mateu, I was previously welcomed for a wine tasting with four glasses of wine and tapas for €18—those good old days, haha. Now you pay €47, but the wine tasting has indeed received a considerable upgrade. We get an extensive tour full of information, which is interesting. Still four glasses of wine, but with more elaborate tapas.

Fun fact: owner Dieter Meier was formerly in the band Yello. Maybe that doesn’t mean anything to you, but this song might:

Back to the wine. Ojo de Ibiza makes two reds, one white, and one rosé wine. You get to taste all of them, and they’re also available in some supermarkets and restaurants on the island. The production is only small-scale.

If you want to do a wine tasting at Ojo de Ibiza, you need to make an appointment in advance. Check your options and contact details on the website. But suppose nobody feels like driving, then you’re best off booking a wine tasting through GetYourGuide, because then you’ll be picked up and brought back to your hotel!

Wine tasting at Ibizkus

In August 2018, Ibizkus opened a tasting room with wine shop. This tasting room is very modern and freshly decorated. The blue color from the logo is reflected in various places in the interior. Very nice. The prices of wine tastings start at € 25. You also get a tour of the cellars and the production facilities (provided that grapes are not just unloaded) and an explanation about the wines.

The wine tasting at Ibizkus takes about an hour and is just a bit more professional than the other winery. Our host Andre knows a lot about the wines and the winery itself. In 2007 this winery started as Totem Wines, and later the winery continued under the name Ibizkus.

Ibizkus has no fewer than 40 pieces of land on Ibiza on which various grapes are grown. The wine is still stamped here with the feet. How cool is that?! The Ibizkus White and Rose are real sloppy wines: perfect for taking to the beach for a picnic. My favorite is the Ibizkus Red, nice and full and fruity. We even get an extra glass of this red wine because we like it so much. Thank you, Andre!

Can Rich wine tasting

Wine tours are only available by appointment at Can Rich. But often, you can just drop by for a tasting. Check the options in advance to avoid disappointment. I try the tasting as there aren’t enough people to participate in a tour on the dates I’m available. So my friend and I try four wines and a small glass of hierbas. The wines are served one by one, but with a little too much time in between and little explanation. But the surroundings are beautiful, and we pay €15. The full tour is € 40, by the way.

Can Rich was established in 1997 and has over 20 hectares of vineyard and another 3.000 olive trees. I love the olive oil, by the way. Every time I come to Ibiza I take a bottle home.

Not wine but Hierbas in Ibiza

Okay, it’s not wine, but it’s a typical drink from Ibiza. Hierbas: a kind of herbal liqueur. In restaurants, you often get a little glass of it after your dinner. And you can learn to make it yourself. This is still on my to-do list for my next Ibiza trip! View the details here.
