Latest update: 17 October 2024
Actually, drinking wine at S’Hostal is my favorite pastime in Montuïri (2 euros for a glass of wine!). But for variety reasons, you can also find other entertainment. So get your tips on Montuïri, Mallorca!
Center of Montuïri
In the ‘center’ is the Sant Bartomeu church. It is difficult to admire it because it is cramped between the buildings. You will also find stone windmills from the 18th century in various places in Montuïri. For example, there is one at Pizzeria Es Moli – it’s even more beautiful when lit up at night. And the pizzeria is good too, by the way! Be sure to order the bocochinos as a starter (dough balls).
I ‘lived’ in Montuïri for no less than two months. Read how I experienced that: Find non-touristic Mallorca in Montuïri.
Archaeological museum and site
The archaeological museum Museu Arqueologico de Son Fornésis is located in one of the old mills, the Moli des Floret. It used to be a water windmill. The opening hours of the museum are limited. On most days you can visit between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for € 3.50. A visit starts with a short introduction by the museum employee, and then you walk through the museum with your phone with this website in hand.
The museum also includes the archaeological site of Talaiots de Son Fornés. So, in the museum, you mainly get an explanation of the earlier periods in text and images; at the site, you can get a better understanding in real life.
This is the location of the museum, and the site is here.
Pearl factory and museum
Before coming to Mallorca, I had no idea that pearls are such a ‘thing’ on the island. Especially in the vicinity of Manacor, you will find many pearl factories and museums. But you can also visit Mallorca Pearl World or Orquidea Majora Pearls in Montuïri. Unfortunately, both were closed during my stay, so let me know if it’s worth it!
Wine tasting Bodega Blanca Terra
Wine is made in Mallorca. A lot of wine. In Montuïri, you can go to Bodega Blanca Terra to visit the vineyard and a wine tasting. But you can also come and have an extensive lunch or dinner if you are with a larger group.

Drinks in Montuïri
My favorite cafe in all of Mallorca is S’Hostal. It’s nothing special to look at, but it’s wonderfully casual, and you sit among the village residents who come and go. Early in the morning, they are already there for a cup of coffee; at the end of the day, everyone comes for a drink. Well, especially the men from the village – it seems to be their meeting spot.

Restaurants in Montuïri
Montuïri does not have a lively restaurant scene. I don’t think anyone will make a detour to catch one of the restaurants in Montuïri. But if you’re staying in the area, Pizzeria Es Moli is an excellent option. It is a simple restaurant with super-correct service and delicious pizzas and bocochinos. There is a large veranda to enjoy the sun for a long time in the summer.
S’Hort des Pont is located slightly outside the center and serves local food. It honestly looks anything but cozy inside. And to be even more honest, the building isn’t very inviting either. But the terrace is nicely sheltered and offers a view of the Majorcan landscape. So I can well imagine that it is lovely to spend a few hours here in the summer. The portions are enormous, and the grilled octopus salad and the sirloin steak are highly recommended.
What to do just outside Montuïri?
A short drive from Montuïri, you will find several smaller and larger villages. It is best to visit those on market days as the towns come to life. I really enjoy Sineu for example.
Museum and estate Els Calderes
Not far from Montuïri is the museum and estate Els Calderes. It is a beautiful house to visit with a fantastic courtyard garden. We get a Dutch brochure pushed into our hands and go to investigate. There is a lot of stuff inside: I can’t believe my eyes: from old typewriters and furniture to shot game and wine cellars.
Various animals live in the yard: cows, pigs, goats. Hello, rural feeling. The black pigs are kept to make black pudding and sobrasada. A local delicacy. The village of Sant Joan is known for those sausages. Not entirely convinced, we try to taste some in Sant Joan, but unfortunately, everything seems closed. And the restaurants that seem open are so desolate that we let the black pudding pass us by.
You can visit Els Calderes every day. This is the Google Maps location.
Glassblowing workshop Vidrio Gordiola
Along the highway towards Palma, you will find the glass museum Vidrio Gordiola. Unless you’re highly interested in glass, this is just a nice quick stop. It is more of a shop and workshop than a museum. You can buy glassware: lamps, vases, glasses, candlesticks, figurines… But it’s pretty pricey. Logically, everything is made by hand. You can see exactly how: have a look at the workshop. It’s impressive to watch the glass go into the red-hot kiln and see how the glassblowers shape it. You can come and have a look for free, but a tip for the glassblowers is much appreciated.
Short walks in the Montuïri area
So I’m on Mallorca with my dog , so I need outlets. But, unfortunately, walking in the village is not a success. There is hardly any greenery, and his bark is painfully shrill through the streets. Now you can find better walks in other places in Mallorca, but this is fine for a short walk or just stretching your legs.
At the archaeological site of Talaiots de Son Fornés (location), you can walk towards Montuiri. We park the car and turn around halfway. You walk past the ruins and follow the hiking trail along various fincas. It is not a popular walking route, so you are usually alone with kittens, sheep and chickens, donkeys, and horses. You walk past vines and have views of the fields and mountains.
The hiking area of Sa Comuna de Lloret is a 15-minute drive from Montuïri. People also like to come here for picnics and mountain biking. And hunt in season! For days we bow our heads why the dog is not allowed ‘cacar’ – utterly convinced that cacar has something to do with pooping. But it means hunting. Whether it’s the season, you’ll see at the entrances. It’ll have a paper explaining which days are safe to go in. The terrain is only accessible via fences that you have to climb over. It is a forest, and there are two routes through it. They are well-marked. You will also find the center of Mallorca here. It’s not really a memorable spot, let alone Instagrammable, but it’s fun nonetheless.
Hotels and fincas in Montuïri
Because Montuïri is not geared towards tourism, there are not that many hotels. There are beautiful fincas, such as Finca Son Manera and Finca Es Rafal. I choose a villa through Airbnb. Outside the high season, even such villas are affordable. There are hardly any tourists on the island, so the prices drop.
So I am staying with my dog and best friend in a large house with an even larger garden, with a swimming pool. Unfortunately, it is really too cold to jump in it. Well, we do it once because we think it’s such a shame we have such a beautiful unused pool. Check the details of the villa on Airbnb.
