Latest update: 21 July 2023

Ok, this is NOT what you wanted on your Mallorca holiday: rain. All plans are now literally falling apart. Fortunately, there is still quite a bit to do on the island when it rains. I’ll give you 14 tips for what to do in Mallorca when it rains.

Rain tip 1: Visit the Caves of Drach or Hams

It doesn’t rain underground! So pay a visit to the Cuevas Drach or Cuevas dels Hams near Manacor. The Drach caves are the most popular because you can watch a classical concert on the water. The lake is one of the largest underground lakes in the world. Deep underground, you can admire the natural phenomenon of stalagmites and stalactites. All nicely lit. In Palma de Mallorca, you can also visit caves: the caves of Génova.

You can book a time slot at the Caves of Drach on the site, or opt for a full tour via GetYourGuide, With Locals, or Viator. You can buy a ticket for the Caves of Ham here, and if you want to go to Génova, you can arrange your entrance here.

Rain tip 2: Adventurous cave tour

If a ‘normal’ visit to the caves isn’t challenging enough for you, opt for a cave tour. You won’t go into the well-known caves but relatively unknown ones. Did you know that Mallorca has more than 3000 caves? On this tour, you also have to climb and scramble a bit. Helmet check? Headlamp check? Let’s go! You won’t even know it’s raining in Mallorca. Check the availability here.

Rain tip 3: Wine tasting

Want to drink away your sorrow and the rain? That is perfectly possible in Mallorca because there are a lot of wineries on the island. I tested a few for you, and you can read about them in my blog article about wine tasting in Mallorca.

Rain tip 4: Rafa Nadal Museum Experience

The most famous man in Mallorca is probably Rafael Nadal. Even if you are not a huge tennis fan, it is nice to visit his museum experience. They are mainly sports simulations you can experience: play tennis against Rafael, race in a Formula 1 car, or row like a pro. It’s an active museum visit and also great fun with older children. And, of course, there is an exhibition where you can see all of Rafa’s cups, outfits, and rackets. The Rafa Nadal Museum Experience uses time slots, so book in advance to avoid disappointment and escape the bad weather.

Rain tip 5: Visit the Els Calderers estate

Hide from the rain for a while in Els Calderers’ beautiful country house. The rooms are full of old furniture and stuff. There’s a lot to see, so go and explore the wine cellar, chapel, and farm animals to pet in between showers. Read more about visiting the estate.

If you pre-order your ticket online, you’ll get a small discount on the entrance fee.

Rain tip 6: Discover glassblowing in Mallorca

Glass blowing is an old tradition in Mallorca. You can visit several factories for free to see how the glassblowers work. For example, at Gordiola, you can visit the workshop. Or visit Lafiore, there they also organize tours where you can try glassblowing yourself. Menestralia, unfortunately, does not seem to have survived the corona crisis. Maybe they will reopen at a later time?

Rain tip 7: Visit a museum

A perfect place to hide from the rain is a museum. Mallorca has something for everyone in terms of museums. From modern art to archaeology. And smaller art galleries and specialized museums. On Tripadvisor, you will find a pretty complete overview.

Rain tip 8: Wellness and spa

Why not make the most out of a rainy day in Mallorca and try some wellness facilities? Mallorca has a wide range of wellness and spa facilities. Well-known options are Talise Spa, Steigenberger Spa, and Arabella Spa. Enjoy yourself!

Rain tip 9: Escape from an escape room

Up for a challenge? Try to escape from an escape room. You have several options in Mallorca. The Best Escape Rooms has three different rooms, Dark Machine Escape Rooms too, and the King of Escape currently has two. And Mission Escape is also well-regarded. Always check in which language the escape room is available. Call ahead to be sure. It might be a little too difficult for some of us to escape if it’s only Spanish.

Rain tip 10: Visit a covered market

Shop with the locals. The Mercat de Santa Catalina is small but nice, and the Mercat de l’Olivar is also an excellent option. You can have a bite at some stalls; otherwise, just see which products are sold on a Spanish market. Both markets have a roof, so you’ll be safe from the rain.

Rain tip 11: See the pearls of Majorica

It’s probably an acquired taste: pearls. And admittedly: it is a rather touristy activity. But, anyway, Majorica is a big pearl producer, and a visit to the factory can be quite entertaining for some distraction from the rain. The exhibition is simple, and of course, they hope you buy some pearls. This is the Google Maps location.

Rain tip 12: Go to the cinema

The biggest challenge when choosing a movie is whether it is in English or with English subtitles. You have the best chance at Ocine, Artesite, and Ocimax. I honestly wouldn’t bet on it and just give them a call before you set out.

Rain tip 13: Bowling

What to do when it rains in Mallorca? Bowling is always good for a few hours of entertainment. Reserve a lane at Mallorca bowling.

Rain tip 14: Trampoline jumping in Palma

Palma Jump is Mallorca’s trampoline park. Jumping for an hour is a lot of fun and very tiring. Play games, try some flips, and have fun! Reserve a time slot to escape the Mallora rain.
