Latest update: 11 July 2025
It was announced in March 2025 that Ibiza’s famous Mirador de Es Vedra viewpoint will be closed for good. The viewpoint has become a victim of its success because of the hordes of tourists who cause a nuisance here. That means you can no longer get to Atlantis either (although that wasn’t easy anyway). Or can you after all?!
Disturbances at Es Vedra
Quite frankly, I think it is perfectly justified that the lookout was closed as it was used until recently. There were simply too many people visiting it who could not behave, which damaged nature, caused extreme crowding, and pollution.
When I first visited Ibiza (over ten years ago already), the lookout point was an oasis of calm. The viewpoint gives you a beautiful view of the magical Es Vedra rock. It was the ideal spot to watch the sunset with just a handful of people. The atmosphere was pleasant.
Over the years, it became increasingly crowded, and the landowners tried to manage tourism a bit better. No more randomly parking your car in a vulnerable natural area; instead, use the designated parking area. Fences were installed to keep visitors on the right path. But it was all in vain. People kept coming, making a mess, and organizing illegal parties.
Rocks and fines at Es Vedra
The owners have had enough – yes, it’s private property! And they’ve now completely closed off the area. This means you can no longer visit Torre des Savinar, Atlantis, or the hippie cave either.

The parking lot is now filled with large rocks and stones, as is the side of the road. If you still try to park here, you risk a fine of up to €3,000 (about $3,250). Don’t do it – a vacation to Ibiza is expensive enough already.
The owners have asked the municipality to find a solution for tourists who still want to see Es Vedra. But since the municipality hasn’t done anything to help the owners so far, little is expected from them at this point.
New Es Vedra parking!
But in July 2025, an alternative parking lot opened. It is now free, but it will probably become a paid parking lot in the future. You can find it here. I haven’t tried it myself yet, so I’m very curious. Will you let me know if you can just get to the viewpoint and Atlantis again? And whether it’s a little quieter?
Now the best Es Vedra viewpoint
So, what’s the best Es Vedra viewpoint now? I recommend going to Cala d’Hort beach (Google Maps location). With the disappearance of the Mirador de Es Vedra, it will probably be crowded there around sunset. But fortunately, there are more great spots where you can admire the sunset in Ibiza.
