Curaçao is a fan-tas-tic Caribbean island. The colorful capital Willemstad with the famous Handelskade is a street art paradise. And, of course, there are beautiful beaches with fun beach bars. But if you want, you can also go on an adventure in Curaçao, like discovering the rugged coast or climbing the Christoffelberg.

💰CurrencySince April 2025, it’s the Caribbean guilder (XCG), pegged to the US dollar: $1 is 1.79 guilders. In October 2026, €1 got you about 2 guilders, but the rate changes fast. US dollars are widely accepted, and you can pay by card almost everywhere.
🗣️LanguageMost locals speak Papiamentu. Dutch is an official language, and many people also speak English and Spanish, so you’ll get by just fine. “Bon dia” (good morning) and “danki” (thank you) are a good start.
⛪ReligionAbout 68 percent of the people on Curaçao are Catholic. There are also Pentecostal and Protestant communities. And Willemstad has the oldest synagogue in the Americas that’s still in use: Mikvé Israel-Emanuel, from 1732.
🕒Time zoneCuraçao is on UTC-4, with no daylight saving time. That’s the same as New York in summer and 1 hour ahead in winter, 3 hours ahead of Los Angeles in summer (4 in winter), and 6 hours behind Amsterdam in summer (5 in winter).
🛂VisaTravelers from the US, the UK, the EU and many other countries can stay up to 90 days without a visa. Your passport must be valid for your entire stay. Before you go, fill in the online Digital Immigration Card (DI card).
☀️Best time to goYear-round. It’s always warm, with a nice trade wind almost all the time. Most rain falls from October through December, usually in short showers. Outside high season (December to April), stays are cheaper.
🔌Power outletsCuraçao runs on 127 volts with mostly US-style outlets, so US plugs fit. Coming from Europe? Bring an adapter and check your devices. Some hotels also have European outlets.
🚗TrafficCuraçao drives on the right. Public transportation is limited, so if you want to explore the beaches and the rugged west, rent a car.
